The Oba of Lagos (Lagos Monarch), His Majesty, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu 1, has added his voice to the growing call for Government institutions in Nigeria to patronise local auto plants when buying their vehicles. The Lagos monarch has therefore challenged the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Police to patronise the Peugeot range of vehicles due to what he described as the “quality, durability and reliability” of Peugeot on Nigerian roads.
Akiolu gave the challenge at his palace when the management team of PAN Nigeria Limited led by its MD/CEO, Ibrahim Boyi, visited him.The Oba recalled with nostalgia his first experience with the Peugeot vehicle that lasted more than three decades from his days as an Assistant Commissioner of Police, saying Peugeot is “tough, reliable and ideal as patrol vehicle in cities and rough terrains.”
He also called on the Lagos State Government to use Peugeot vehicles so as to support and promote made-in-Nigeria products, while imploring the PAN management team to employ more Lagosians, expand its skills acquisition training for youth employment and continue paying taxes to the Federal Inland Revenue (FIRS) and Lagos State Government to boost their internally-generated revenue.
In his remarks earlier, the MD/CEO of PAN Nigeria Limited, Boyi, said the management team was at the Oba’s domain to inaugurate two dealership network and to intimate him on their new product lines.
Boyi also said the visit offered them the opportunity to highlight the great employment opportunities with entrepreneurship development in automotive value chain sector provided by the national automotive policy of the Federal Government which PAN has keyed into.
