Corps Marshal Oyeyemi Restates Commitment to Staff Welfare

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has restated his commitment to improving the welfare of members of the Corps, saying this is in furtherance of his policy on improved service delivery at the Corps even as he maintained that every measure would be taken to improve their socio-economic and career conditions.

Oyeyemi restated this in Kano while addressing staff of the state Sector Command at an interactive session organised as part of activities to mark his visit to Commands under Zone 1 Headquarters, Kaduna.

While enumerating the policies and programmes put in place by the Management to improve the social status of the staff, Oyeyemi harped on the need for all to embrace the staff welfare programmes put in place to address their service and post-Service life. This he said, is necessary in view of the need to remove the fear of retirement, especially among staff who have not made adequate preparation for their lives after service.

He reassured staff on the security of their savings under the Post Service Scheme (PSS), but called on those who are yet to embrace the housing scheme initiated by the Corps to do so without delay, noting that everyone is at liberty to choose the location in the country he wants the house to be and that repayment period is long enough to guarantee convenience for the beneficiaries. He further stressed that with the scheme being in place in the FRSC, no staff should retire without a house of his own.

Speaking further, the Corps Marshal restated the earlier decision of the Management on the conversion of Marshals on the rank of Road Marshal Assistant, saying those staff on that cadre who have been able to obtain their degree certificate after Management’s approval can now enjoy conversion to Officers cadre directly without having to go for conversion to inspectorate cadre first as was the case before. In addition, he said officers with HND who have stagnated on a rank and now have additional qualification can enjoy unhindered promotion henceforth, in line with the Federal Government’s policy on the removal of the dichotomy between holders of B.Sc and HND.

Oyeyemi said FRSC Management has granted waivers to all staff with additional qualification, but without official permission to go to school to present such certificates for consideration. In addition, he said the convertible years for Marshals was deliberately extended for this year’s conversion exercise, taking into consideration perennial ASUU strike, that negatively affected the academic calendar of the various universities. He, therefore, urged all staff to reciprocate the gestures of the Management by showing greater zeal, determination and focus in performing their official duties.
