German logistics services provider, KAHMEN TransCargo GmbH, has placed an order for 70 Mercedes-Benz Actros to update its fleet. The order for the 60 Mercedes-Benz Actros 1842 LS tractor units and 10 Actros 2542 LL BDF with fully enclosed swap bodies in KAHMEN company livery was placed with German Mercedes-Benz dealer Beresa OWL GmbH & Co KG in Bielefeld.

It has been described as a major order for Mercedes-Benz Trucks, and delivery, which has since commenced,  will be done through into 2018. The first seven trucks were handed over this summer to Reimund and Detlev Kahmen, Executive Directors of KAHMEN TransCargo GmbH, at the Customer Centre of the Wörth plant by Dr Volker Hüntrup, Head of the Mercedes-Benz Trucks Order Centre.

High-quality equipment: 70x safety, comfort and connectivity

In terms of the specification, safety is paramount. All trucks feature the Safety Package, which in addition to Lane Keeping Assist, Proximity Control Assist, Attention Assist and a driver’s airbag, encompasses Active Brake Assist 4 with pedestrian detection. Furthermore, all vehicles have been specified with the new radar-based Sideguard Assist system, which provides the driver with acoustic and visual warnings of any obstacle – either stationary or moving – on the truck’s near side.

Alongside safety, the key focus for KAHMEN is clearly on the comfort of its drivers: all vehicles are equipped with the anticipatory cruise control system Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) which, while helping to relieve the strain on the driver, has the added benefit of saving fuel. The BigSpace cab, 2.50 m wide and with a level floor, offers plenty of space as well as ample room for storage.

KAHMEN is also leading the way in terms of digitalisation: for the smooth and transparent operation of its logistics processes the company is depending on digital solutions from Fleetboard. It was therefore crucial right from the start that all 70 trucks should be fitted with the new Truck Data Center module, thus providing the basis for Mercedes-Benz Uptime: in order to improve vehicle availability further, to bundle maintenance and repair work as practically as possible and to avoid breakdowns, KAHMEN is investing in the networking of the vehicles both with the customer and with Mercedes-Benz Service.

KAHMEN TransCargo GmbH

KAHMEN TransCargo GmbH was founded in 1965 by Günter Kahmen as a freight carrier for express goods, working on behalf of the railways. The first long-distance route to Wuppertal and Cologne was launched in 1985. In 1988 the company moved to Gütersloh, to a site with a warehouse, truck wash and filling station over an area of 11 000 square metres. In 2007,  the company and its 160 employees moved again, this time to Rheda-Wiedenbrück. Here, an area of 37 000 square metres includes parking for 150 trucks, a workshop, truck wash, filling station and office premises. KAHMEN TransCargo GmbH, these days, has 71 trucks of its own as well as more than 100 trailers and semitrailers, and operates as a neutral service provider for well-known German logistics companies on domestic long-distance haulage routes.
