Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA) has continued to upgrade and uplift the community in which it operates as Saturday, 29 July 2017, marked the 14th VWSA community volunteer project run in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and the 20th nationally. These volunteer projects are run by The Volkswagen Show of Hands Volunteer Programme which is an ongoing initiative under the Volkswagen for Good campaign. The Volkswagen for Good campaign mainly focuses on education and youth development.
On Saturday, it was the turn of Mngcunube Primary School in KwaNobuhle in Uitenhage which was built in KwaNobuhle in 1971. It started off as a Lower Primary School catering for Grade 1 to 4. The school now caters for Grade R – Grade 7 and has 32 teachers with over 1100 learners.
The school has become a beacon of hope for the community of KwaNobuhle because it has dedicated educators who produce quality learners that are able to occupy leadership and management positions in the community and the corporate world.
The school required extensive upgrades in all areas but it was decided to focus on the Grade R classrooms and playground. The classrooms received all necessary repairs as well as a fresh coat of paint inside and outside. The playground was spruced up and grass was laid so the learners now have an inviting space to play in.
Over 180 Volkswagen Group South Africa Employees and their loved ones gave of their time and skills to upgrading the facilities at the school.
“Our Show of Hands programme provides our employees with an opportunity to give back to the communities that they live in and I was again reminded of the generosity our employees have and their willingness to help people less fortunate than themselves.” said Thomas Schaefer, Chairman and Managing Director: Volkswagen Group South Africa.
