PAN Refutes Media Report on Lawmakers’ Peugeot 508 Cars

PAN Nigeria Limited, the pioneer car assembly plant in Nigeria, Monday, described as a misrepresentation of fact a report published by a national newspaper, alleging that PAN lacked the capacity to deliver on schedule the Peugeot 508 cars ordered for members of the House of Representatives because of the large numbers involved.

The company also dismissed the allegation that the choice of Peugeot 508 was forced on the lawmakers, saying the choice, against all other brands,  was based on the overall value offered by the vehicle in terms of price, performance and residual value.

PAN explained that the choice was also a demonstration by the House of Representatives to patronise made-in-Nigeria products in support of the Federal Government’s Auto Development Plan to promote local industrialisation and generation of economic opportunities.

A statement issued by the management of the Kaduna-based assembly plant and signed by the Head, Corporate Communication, Haroun Malami, described the report as misleading, inaccurate, malicious, saying it undermines PAN’s capacity as a key stakeholder and active player in the Nigerian automotive industry.

The statement reads:  “Our attention has been drawn to headline report captioned, “Reps grumble as delivery of N6.1bn exotic car stalls” by John Ameh in PUNCH newspaper and (its) online publication of 31st July 2017.

“The reporter’s  remark,  “Peugeot lacks capacity to deliver the cars because of the huge numbers”,  is misleading, inaccurate, malicious, and it undermines our capacity as a key stakeholder and active player in the Nigerian automotive industry.

“We are pioneer car assembly plant in Nigeria with over four decades in vehicle assembly, our SKD production capacity at the moment is 30 vehicles per shift, we are the only assembly plant with a fully built CKD facility ready for deployment when the demand arises.

“With robust dealership network and after sales services, we are uniquely placed and committed to meet national, and our customers demand who are committed to meeting their financial obligation.

“The choice of Peugeot 508 against all other brand was based on overall value offered by the vehicle in terms of price, performance and residual value. It is also a demonstration of the House of Representatives to patronise made in Nigeria products in support of Government Auto Development Plan to promote local industrialization and generation of economic opportunities.”
