Toyota South Africa, Friday, announced the cancellation of all bookings and appointments for media test-drive and new model launch and drop-off as the country’s 21-day lockdown to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus kicks off.
An official statement from the company’s Communications Team to the media on Friday said:
“Around one in five people around the globe are under lockdown, ordered to stay home, as the world enters a critical week in responding to the accelerating coronavirus pandemic – and we as South Africans will soon be adding to this statistic.
“While we will sadly not be able to drop off the latest Toyota or Lexus for you to test , or host you on a new-model launch, we will endeavour to provide you with motoring content during this news-starved period,” stressing that “The team will be working remotely, so please feel free to contact them.”
Advising further on compliance with the South African Government’s guidelines on the lockdown, the Team said: “We all have a collective responsibility to adhere to government guidelines pertaining to the coronavirus pandemic. Let’s make the best of it and come out of lockdown healthier, wiser and hopefully a tad more tolerant.
“There are myriad ways to engage with others and if we can contribute in some small way to keeping our world better informed, then we’ve done our job. Keep safe!
Assuring the media on continued exercise once the lockdown is over, Toyota said: “We will try and keep test bookings as is over this period which will result in you keeping your test car for a lot longer, but some of you will unfortunately be adversely affected as we won’t be able to deliver vehicles during lockdown.
“If you fall into the latter group and to ensure we don’t lose track of your booking, you will still receive a booking reminder, but don’t worry, we will re-schedule as soon as we get the all-clear.”
