Mercedes-Benz has, once again,  taken the top honours in the top car category of the Consumer Awards at the 19th annual Sunday Times Top Brands Awards which held Wednesday evening at the trendy Hill on Empire Ballroom in Johannesburg.

Marketing Director, Mercedes-Benz Cars, Selvin Govender, said, “The Sunday Times Top Brands Awards is (an) affirmation that consumers are aware of Mercedes-Benz as a brand that inspires passion and creates excitement.”

“We are delighted to gain recognition by consumers who are becoming increasingly aware of the unique combination of tradition and modernity of the brand, whilst maintaining the renowned aspects of safety and innovation that are the DNA of Mercedes-Benz,” he added.

Mercedes-Benz is at the forefront of digitalisation by consistently setting trends and developing new areas of representing its extensive product range, through mediums such as virtual reality – an ‘experience’ that fully engages the senses and appeals to the heart. Recent opportunities, such as the highly successful viral campaign – #AMGgrowl – extended the driving performance experience across all social media platforms, where the brand is also attracting a trendier and tech-savvy audience.

“Earlier in the year, the Mercedes-Benz Brand was nominated by South Africa’s youth as the ‘Coolest Brand’ in the Sunday Times Generation Next awards.  This Youth Marketing Conference came alive with great insight and gave us lots of inspiration for effective youth engagements and activations, providing an ideal platform to better understand user habits and trends of our youth today,”  Govender concluded.

The model portfolio of Mercedes-Benz, with the sub-brands Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach and smart, is bigger and more diverse than ever before. The plug-in-hybrid initiative is underway with three new models and Mercedes-Benz now offers the widest range in the premium segment.  Mercedes-Benz is now the premium brand with the strongest unit sales; in 2016, globally the brand, for the first time, sold more than two million cars.
