A three-year project to help 200 young people obtain their driving licence has been unveiled by the PSA Foundation in partnership with 26 Production Schools in France.
Funding for the project also provided for 15 vehicles to help those under 18 travel to places of employment.
“Lack of mobility is the main barrier to employment,” explained Karine Hillaireau, who heads the PSA Foundation. “Having a driving licence actually doubles a young person’s chances of getting a job. That’s why we decided to help young people in technical training programmes work towards getting their driving licence alongside their studies. We’re very proud of this project, which is already proving to be a big success.”
Also commenting on the importance of the project, “Dominique Hiesse, Chairman of the French National Federation of Production Schools (FNEP), said, “The training provided by Production Schools gives young people excellent qualifications for entering the workforce,” adding, “A driving licence co-financed by the PSA Foundation is an additional asset for ensuring 100 per cent employability.”
Production Schools provide vocational training to young people who find that the traditional school system is not always suited to their needs. The schools adopt a “learning by doing” approach, combining workshops and classrooms on the same premises. With a 90 per cent exam success rate and a 100 per cent employability rate, the model has already proven its effectiveness. It has been recognised as an innovative alternative educational model by the French Ministry of Education in Law 2018-771, dated 5 September 2018, “for the freedom to choose one’s professional future”.
