Nigeria auto journalists unveil plans for annual training programme

Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) has unveiled plans for the 2019 edition of its annual capacity building and training workshop scheduled to hold in the second quarter of this year.

Designed to boost the human capacity of journalists reporting the automotive sector in the country, the annual training workshop is in its fourth year now.

While Ford Motors South Africa (FMCSA), in collaboration with Coscharis Motors, its local dealership,  was the lead sponsor of the first and second editions held in 2016 and 2017 with its global Driving Skill For Life (DSFL) programme domesticated in Nigeria, Stallion Motors Nigeria Limited along with Nissan Motors South Africa emerged as the lead sponsor of the 2018 edition of the programme.

Head of this year’s NAJA capacity building /training committee, Julie Chi-Nwaoha, said this year’s event will be segmented into sessions cutting across test-drive, safety, automotive, tyre maintenance, lubricants, auto insurance, photography  and government policy.

Chi-Nwaoha, who pointed out that the event will also provide avenue for critical stakeholders in the auto industry to rub minds on the way forward, maintained that the auto industry is one fundamental industry in Nigeria that cannot be ignored because of its huge contributions to the economy. She, therefore, stressed the need for consistent training and re-training of motoring journalists who cover the beat.

Also commenting on the training programme, Chairman of NAJA, Mike Ochonma , said the annual training workshop has been a very big eye opener to its members as knowledgeable and competent instructors are drawn from the different sectors of the automotive industry, including the academia even as experts from government and private sectors are always on hand to give their best to members.

The NAJA training workshop is an annual training programme organised to refresh the minds of practising auto journalists on the trend in the automotive industry worldwide. Members of the association cut across reputable print, electronic and online media outfits across the country.
