NAJA mourns as William Anumudu, founder, Globe Motors, dies at 68

The Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA), Tuesday, expressed shock at the news of the death of William Anumudu, Chairman/CEO of Globe Motors Holdings Limited, a leading auto dealership in the country.

Anumudu, who died in Lagos in the early hours of Tuesday, was said to have been managing an undisclosed illness since last year and had recently tested negative to COVID-19. He was said to have passed out while arrangement was being made to fly him to Germany for further treatment.

Reacting to his death in a statement issued by its chairman, Mike Ochonma, NAJA described Anumudu’s death as a big shock, saying it was a loss not only to the local and foreign automotive community where he has made tremendous impact in the past three decades but also to Nigeria at large.

Aged 68, the late Anumudu, who hailed from Mbaitoli near Owerri, the Imo State capital, started Globe Motors in March 1984 with a mission to transform the Nigerian automobile industry.

Globe Motors is now a big dealer of Mercedes-Benz and Toyota just as it holds the sole distributorship for Higer brand of vehicles in Nigeria.
