Mercedes-Benz upgrades London Vito Taxi for more comfort, safety

Vito Taxi 2

Mercedes-Benz said it has upgraded its London black cab, the Vito Taxi, to enable it compete favourably with other “black cabs” in the British capital.

The black cab with the three-pointed star  has been a major player in the intra-city taxi hailing business in London since 2008 and has been a part of  London cityscape just as Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the London Eye.

Now, the Vito Taxi has been completely renewed and upgraded as it now comes with comfortable and generous space for up to six passengers even as it offers barrier-free access for wheel-chair users.

The new Vito Taxi also features electrically operated sliding doors on both sides with electrically extendible entrance steps on the left and right as well as air-conditioning and a start/stop function that come as standard features.

The new Vito Taxi is equipped with numerous assistance systems to help it make its way safely through the busy streets of London. For example the so called ATTENTION ASSIST which comes as standard. It will alert the driver if he or she shows signs of fatigue or inattentiveness. Further assistance systems such as Blind Spot Assist and Active Parking Assist are optionally available.

The new Vito Taxi is specially modified, as was its predecessor, in order to
gain taxi approval in the English capital. Thanks to a specifically designed
rear-steering axle, it complies with the stipulation of a 25 ft turning circle (7.62 metres). Mercedes-Benz is one of just two automobile manufacturers
to have received the sought-after taxi approval.

In addition to the specially modified variant for London, Mercedes-Benz said the new Vito Taxi is also available as a “National Taxi” without a rear-steering axle for regions outside of London.
