The Beat Goes on for Isuzu at Struandale Plant in Port Elizabeth

For those familiar with the buzz and energy at the Struandale Plant of General Motors(GM) in Port Elizabeth before the announcement of GM’s planned exit from South Africa, this is really a good news. It has been agreed  that Isuzu production will continue at the plant and the new owners have confirmed this.

Isuzu production managers recently inspected the assembly line at the Struandale plant in Port Elizabeth to ensure production quality is not compromised during the ongoing re-organisation process. The production lines have been consolidated into a single platform supporting Isuzu light commercial vehicle assembly.

Isuzu Motors Limited, which recently announced its intention to purchase the GM  plant in South Africa as well as GM’s 30 percent shareholding in Isuzu Trucks South Africa, has decided to continue producing the legendary Isuzu KB at the Struandale plant as well as medium and heavy duty trucks at the Kempston Road plant, under the Isuzu brand. What a good news for patrons of Isuzu, a brand that has a strong heritage in South Africa having produced pick-ups there for almost 40 years with supplies to other sub Saharan African markets.

Only recently, Isuzu announced the appointments of some top managers to steer the ship of the company in the new dispensation. More appointments are being expected to be made in the course of time.
