Goodyear South Africa employees recently came together to tickle about 577 school children at Stephen Nkomo Primary School in Kwanobuhle . Their main goal on July 26 was to see 577 learners smile for 67 minutes. And this, they achieved as the excitement was tangible when the learners saw the play zone which was set up on the school grounds for the Goodyear South Africa Mandela Month celebration.

The play zone was made up of various stations manned by Goodyear employees and dedicated to a certain activity such as hopscotch, skipping rope, mini soccer, musical chairs, face painting and a pamper station where girls could get their nails painted.

Goodyear also revealed to its employees the classroom which they will be renovating to help the school alleviate the pressure of the ever-increasing number of learners.

“Playing is very important in the overall development of a child, it allows them to use their creativity while developing their imagination, skill; and physical, reasoning, and emotional strength. We really appreciate Goodyear coming to spend some time with us and what they are still going to do for us. This has reminded me of the saying “a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle” because Goodyear employees have come here to share of themselves and motivate our learners towards a bright future.” remarked school principal, Mrs. Z. Njiyela.

The day was concluded with a performance of songs by the learners, honouring Nelson Mandela. The school children received a treat and a gift from Goodyear to commemorate this day and to motivate them to dream big.

“Goodyear operates in the Nelson Mandela Bay area which is why it is important for us to serve our community and empower the future of our community, which are the children. At Goodyear, we value the importance of keeping our team energised in order to be a successful organisation and understand how keeping our community energised can empower us all” said Tascha Olivier, Goodyear South Africa Manufacturing Human Resources Manager.
