Tonale’s design remains extremely faithful to the eponymous concept from which it derives its origins, thanks to the remarkable work carried out by the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo. The Alfa Romeo Tonale offers a distinctive and sensual design looking to the future, sporting brand new stylistic canons destined to become benchmarks in the development of Alfa Romeo products: 5-hole ”telephone” rims, dashboard instrumentation so-called “Cannocchiale” dashboard, 3-spoke sports steering wheel and sinusoidal curve headlight design. The compact dimensions of the model – length of 4.53 meters, width of 1.84 m and height of 1.60 m – integrate the unique characteristics of Italian design with the original and contemporary style typical of Alfa Romeo, to offer a perfect synthesis between prestigious heritage and orientation towards the future.
We thus find the recurrence of stylistic traits that have gone down in history, such as the “GT Line” which extends from the rear to the front headlights, reminiscent of the shapes of the Giulia GT coupe of the sixties, alternating with full and elegant volumes, reminiscent of emblematic models such as the 8C Competizione.
At the front, the new “floating” grille stands out as a clearly distinctive element. The lower part includes two main side air intakes: together with the grille, they create what has been known for several generations as the ” Trilobo “. The upper part of the front end is distinguished by its characteristic “3 + 3” headlights , created in collaboration with Marelli and directly inspired by the SZ/RZ Zagato or the Proteo concept. In addition to their lighting function, they also incorporate the indicators and the “welcome light”.
These particularly sophisticated headlamps adopt on the one hand the ” Adaptive Driving Beam ” function which permanently adjusts the beam of the dipped beam according to speed and driving conditions, as well as the ” Glare-Free High Beam ” anti-dazzle technology. Interior
Inspired by Alfa Romeo’s sporting history, Tonale’s interior design evokes passion through its dynamic and powerful shapes. Everything is focused around the driver, although the interior is also designed to provide optimum comfort for passengers. The sporty and high-tech environment, illustrated by the cold solidity of aluminum or the soft warmth of leather and Alcantara – reflects the personality of a young, metropolitan and dynamic clientele.
Among the most characteristic elements, we must point out the so-called “Cannocchiale” instrumentation , with its clearly Alfa Romeo style, or the sports steering wheel . This is embellished by the large, fixed, exclusive aluminum gearshift paddles.
The center console houses an essential Alfa Romeo feature: the DNA driving mode selector . The dashboard, oriented towards the driver, is characterized by its air vents, thin in the center and turbine-shaped on the outside. ON-BOARD TECHNOLOGIES:
As a world exclusive, Tonale is launching NFT (Non-Fungible Token) technology, a real innovation in the automotive sector. Alfa Romeo is the first manufacturer to associate a car with an NFT digital certificate. This technology is based on the “blockchain card” concept, a confidential and non-modifiable record of the main stages in the life of a vehicle. This distinctive off-board feature underlines the innovative nature of Alfa Romeo. Upon consent of the customer, the NFT will record the vehicle data, generating a certificate that will guarantee that the car has been properly maintained, benefiting its residual value. Alfa Romeo interprets in its own way the use of software and connectivity to improve the driving experience, an absolute priority for the Marque. Tonale is therefore equipped with the most advanced technology to ensure a connected and comfortable on-board experience, while maintaining typical Alfa Romeo driving pleasure.
Tonale in particular includes the built-in functions of the Amazon Alexa voice assistant, so that you always feel at home in your car, making life easier and more convenient. Full integration with Amazon is illustrated by the “Secure Delivery Service” which allows for example to choose Tonale as the place of delivery of parcels by unlocking the doors remotely to allow the service provider to deposit them in the car in complete safety.

Alfa Connect services
Alfa Romeo Tonale incorporates Alfa Connect Services for greater safety and convenience. As standard, Tonale comes with an all-new integrated infotainment system . The interface of the 10.25-inch central screen, fluid and sophisticated, is similar to that of a smartphone. It allows information to be viewed at a glance. The system works with widgets that can be moved directly on the screen according to the user’s wishes. It can create its own homepage, where each of the car’s features is an application in itself. With the flick of a finger, the Alfa DNA, radio, media, telephone, navigation, air conditioning, connected services and ADAS screens can be viewed and arranged according to one’s preferences. The driver can then choose to use the rotary knob or the touch screen.

Innovative systems at the service of safety
Of course, technology is also at the service of safety and comfort: level 2 autonomous driving, with new advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that act in accordance with the Alfa Romeo philosophy. STATE-OF-THE-ART ELECTRIFICATION
For Alfa Romeo, Tonale marks the entry into the world of electrification but, faithful to its bold approach, this electrification must serve the Brand and its DNA, with the mission of reinventing sportiness for the 21st century. A concrete commitment from Alfa Romeo for a future focused on sustainable mobility while remaining faithful to its founding values.
Two levels of electrification, Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid, are offered: first, the 160 hp Hybrid VGT (Variable-Geometry Turbo) engine, an Alfa Romeo exclusive . Equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger, it is associated with an Alfa Romeo TCT 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and the “P2” electric motor of 48 volts, 15 kW and 55 Nm. Thus motorized, this version can move even when the internal combustion engine is stopped. Alfa Romeo opted for this technical solution in order to offer an authentic electrified experience. The transmission allows starting and moving in electric mode at low speed and during parking maneuvers or at cruising speed. This provides traction to the front wheels while the propulsion of the rear wheels is provided by the electric motor. The system has a 15.5 kWh battery and delivers a total power of 275 hp. This version goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds and has a range in pure electric mode of up to 80 km* in the urban cycle (more than 60 km* in the combined cycle) , i.e. the best category values. A full battery charge takes only 2.5 hours with a 7.4 kW fast charger. Standard on this Plug-in Hybrid version, the Q4 four-wheel drive transmission provides an unequaled level of safety and driving pleasure.
Finally, the range will be completed by the new 1.6-liter diesel engine with 130 hp and 320 Nm of torque, combined with the Alfa Romeo TCT 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
All the specifications of the new hybrid engine
The new 4-cylinder turbocharged engine has been designed to be best suited to hybrid use and to optimize thermodynamics, to the benefit of fuel consumption. It works on the Miller cycle, thus allowing a high compression ratio (12.5:1). Other features include a new cylinder head with a compact combustion chamber, dual variable valve timing, special ”high-tumble” intake ducts and a high-pressure direct injection system operating up to 350 bar. .
Designed exclusively for Alfa Romeo, the 160 hp version adds a new variable geometry turbocharger, able to combine great responsiveness at low revs and high power for sportier driving, while maintaining a high level of efficiency. The access version to the range delivers a power of 130 hp for a maximum torque of 240 Nm.
These two engines benefit from the presence of a BSG (Belt Start Generator) alternator-starter which allows rapid and silent transitions during restarts. The intelligent braking system optimizes the braking energy recovery function, again to the benefit of consumption.
This new hybrid technology allows the Alfa Romeo Tonale to offer a genuine hybrid driving experience. The electric motor provides additional support to the new 1.5 petrol engine to optimize responsiveness and versatility of use while allowing more relaxing driving thanks to the various features available, including:
• “Silent Start” to start the vehicle only in electric-only mode
• “Energy Recovery” to recover electrical energy during deceleration (e-Coasting) or during braking (Regenerative Braking)

• e-Parking, to simplify parking maneuvers and make them silent.
All electrical capacities are available depending on the state of charge of the battery and the power requested.
DRIVING DYNAMICS AT THE TOP
Tonale is a benchmark in its category in terms of driving. Its dynamic behavior is worthy of a sports car, as illustrated by the remarkable weight distribution and its steering, the most direct in its segment (13.6). It is also the only model in its class to feature fixed aluminum paddle shifters and to receive the Integrated Braking System (IBS) . This innovative electromechanical system combines stability control with the conventional brake booster. This allows significant weight optimization and provides optimal braking feel with a total absence of pedal vibration as well as instant braking response. The adoption of fixed Brembo 4-piston callipers and self-ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear also contribute to improving braking performance. Tonale opts for a fully independent MacPherson -type suspension scheme with Frequency Selective Damping (FSD ) dampers for the perfect compromise between handling and comfort. At the rear, the exclusive three-link geometry ensures quick cornering response.
The Plug-in Hybrid e-Q4 version benefits from four-wheel drive, ideal on low-grip surfaces.
On the hybrid (130 hp and 160 hp) and Diesel 130 hp versions, all with front-wheel drive, the standard Alfa Romeo electronic self-locking differential guarantees excellent traction, highlighting the agility and sporty character of the car and further enhancing the level of active safety. Integrated into the DNA selector, this system exploits the effects of the braking system by simulating a mechanical limited-slip differential, redirecting power to the wheel with the best grip when accelerating through corners. It also ensures better control on slippery surfaces and considerably reduces understeer, to the benefit of road holding and driving pleasure.
These specifications are complemented by the availability of an active “ Dual Stage Valve ” suspension with controlled damping. Developed in collaboration with Alfa Romeo’s historic technology partner Marelli, the electronic dampers feature an electro-actuated valve to provide independent damping curves. Two modes are available, Comfort and Sport. The first is the preset calibration in the DNA for Advanced Efficiency and Normal modes. It is perfectly suited for everyday use. The Alfa Romeo Tonale is produced in the renovated “Gianbattista Vico” Stellantis plant in Pomigliano d’Arco (Naples) – one of the Group’s most advanced production sites – on a redesigned production line totally dedicated to the new model. Built in 1968 by Alfa Romeo and operational since 1972, the industrial complex has since produced 5 million cars and won numerous international awards, including, in 2012, World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Silver certification and the Automotive Lean Production award for the best plant in Europe, followed in 2013 by the WCM gold medal.
