VW Trucks & Buses in new R$1.5bn investment deal

Volkswagen line of trucks and buses developed in Brazil and distributed to over 30 countries in Latin America, Africa and Middle East will have a new investment cycle in the amount of R$1.5 billion, the biggest in history.

In addition to new products directed at developing countries, the brand will offer digitalisation and connectivity innovations to its customers.

The announcement was jointly made recently by Andreas Renschler, CEO of the holding Volkswagen Trucks & Bus and Roberto Cortes, President of MAN, Latin America.

The resources will be invested in the constant renovation of its line of products, in the expansion of for new markets niches, in the update of the assembly lines in its Resende Plant, in innovations and extensions in the digitalization and connectivity services and in the expansion of the brand VWCO in the international market. It will be the fifth consecutive cycle of investments in the country and also the one with the highest value. The resources will come primarily from the results achieved by the operation itself, which believes that the Latin American markets will recover.

Speaking during his third visit to Brazil, CEO of Volkswagen, Andreas Renschler, said: “Once again, we believe in the strength of the Brazilian economy and in the importance of developing markets in our strategy of becoming global leader in trucks and buses. For that reason, I was at the Resende plant talking to our employees and I joined Roberto Cortes in a visit to the Brazilian authorities in the capital city of the country”.

Commenting, Roberto Cortes said, “ Our fifth consecutive investment announcement coincides with two important celebrations: the 35 years of the brand Volkswagen Caminhoese Onibus and the 20 years of the factory in Resende partner companies. It was only possible to confirm one more such virtuous cycle thanks to the economic measures decided together with our employees, unions, suppliers and dealers. Thus we can face the crisis and work to recover the market.”
