TOYOTA RE-OPENS SHUT JAPAN PRODUCTION PLANTS

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Monday confirmed that it has recommenced production at the plants in Japan shut two weeks ago as a result of shortages of parts.

Toyota in a statement issued on February 1 announced that, due to parts shortages resulting from an explosion that occurred on January 8 at an Aichi Steel Corporation manufacturing facility, all production would be suspended on its vehicle assembly lines within Japan from February 8 through 13.

A statement issued Monday in Toyota City, Japan however said: “Toyota would like to confirm that production recommenced today as scheduled.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the steel manufacturers who agreed to step in and provide backup supply at short notice. We are also very appreciative of the understanding and cooperation of our suppliers, dealers, customers, and everyone else affected by this incident.”
