President Bola Tinubu, Thursday in Lagos, inaugurated the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line Project Phase 1, built by the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the Ikeja Train Station.
The Red Line Rail, a 37 kilometre rail route from Ebute Metta (Oyingbo) to Agbado in Ogun State, in its first phase, is expected to carry 500,000 passengers daily when fully operational..
To ensure safety along the route, the Lagos State Government also built vehicular overpasses and pedestrian bridges, to reduce train/vehicles interaction.
With new train stations in Ebute Metta, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Agege, Iju, and vehicular overpasses in Agege, Mushin, Ikeja, Yaba and Oyingbo, the Red Line Rail will reduce travel time from two hours or two hours 30 minutes to 25-30 minutes, which will improve productivity.
Also on Thursday, the Lagos State Government signed the agreement for the commencement of the second phase of the Red Line Rail Project, which will move from Ebute Metta Station in Oyingbo to connect the Blue Line rail to the Island at the National Theatre Station.
