(By John Adiele) Your car’s headlamp is like your gateway at night, especially when driving in an unfavorable weather condition. However, your car’s headlamp can go bad due to faulty components. It is therefore recommended that you periodically clean the lenses or plastic cover (as it is the case with modern vehicles) to keep it glowing in unfriendly weather conditions.
This is because these headlamp lenses get stained overtime due to our driving pattern and road conditions, with water, fog and corrosive agents making sure your car headlamps are just not at their best. This article focuses on several ways which you can easily clean your head lamps to make them new again.
Sand Paper
One method of cleaning your foggy headlamp is by using sand paper. This method involves you applying sand paper on the surface of your foggy headlamp, gently scrub the foggy surface of your headlamp until it’s clear, then use car wax, plastic polish or vegetable oil to clean the sandpapered surface to make it clean and clear again. Requirements include sand paper, wax or plastic polish, clean cloth.
Metal Polish or Silver Cleaner
A metal polish or silver cleaner could also be used for cleaning your car headlamps, this is more pronounced when your headlamp becomes cloudy due to discolored watermarks or oxidation. Simply apply the metal or silver cleaner, using a mild cloth, and then clean gently. However, do not allow the metal cleaner to remain for a long period of time on the plastic surface of your headlamp as it may result in severe damage. Requirements include metal polish or silver cleaner and abrasive cloth.
Vinegar
One substance than can be used to easily clean up your foggy headlamp is vinegar. Simply put your headlamp in a bucket filled with white vinegar and allow it rest for 60 minutes or so, after which you can easily wipe off with a mildly abrasive cloth. Requirements: Vinegar, bucket and abrasive cloth.
Aside these aforementioned methods, there are other related methods as well, particularly that of toothpaste. But try and pick the method that is best ideal for you, given the materials on ground.
