Style & Substance: The most fuel-efficient sports cars revealed

*Mercedes C-Class is the most efficient sports car on the market with 64 MPG
*BMW complete an all-German top three with their 2 Series Coupe and 4
Series convertible. *Audi A8 is the most fuel-efficient luxury car, with 49 MPG.

German engineering leads the way when it comes to driving in style, with
the top three sports cars offering the best fuel-efficiency coming from
either Mercedes or BMW, according to a new study from Ageas Insurance.

The study revealed that the Mercedes C-Class Coupe offers the best
official miles per gallon on the market with 64 MPG, ahead of the BMW 2
Series Coupe in second (61 MPG) and the BMW 4 Series Convertible (60
MPG) in third.

The Lexus RC and Mini Cooper Convertible, another entry from BMW,
complete the top five at 59 MPG and 57 MPG respectively.

Interestingly, when it comes to road testing, the BMW 2 Series tested
better than the C-Class Coupe, with you getting a likely 47 MPG out of
the BMW, and 45 MPG from the Mercedes.

The Mini Cooper Convertible is the cheapest option of the top five most
fuel-efficient sports cars with a starting price of £20,630 brand new,
over £6,000 cheaper than the next best value, the BMW 2 Series.

When it comes to luxury cars, Audi leads the way, with the A8 offering
49 MPG, officially, ahead of the Mercedes S-Class Saloon (47 MPG), and
the Lexus LS (46 MPG), which completed the top three. The Mercedes
S-Class Coupe is the fourth most fuel-efficient luxury car, with the
Rolls Royce Phantom making an appearance in fifth, although you’ll be
paying a whopping 22.8p per mile.

The study also found that the Vauxhall Grandland X is the most
fuel-efficient SUV, with the Toyota Prius the most fuel-efficient car
for families, alongside being the overall most fuel-efficient car at an
official 90  MPG.

The top five most fuel-efficient sports cars are:

Position Car Starting Price Official MPG Likely MPG Fuel Cost Per Mile CO2 Emissions (g/km)
1 Mercedes C-Class Coupe £39,705 64 45 7.9p 133
2 BMW 2 Series Coupe

The most fuel-efficient cars is a study that explores the best cars on
the market offering fuel efficiency, exploring the miles per gallon, CO2
emissions and the cost of the cars. The overall best cars are then a
culmination of that data. The study then breaks down the vehicles on the
market to suit different types of buyer, including:

* Overall best car for fuel-efficiency
* Most fuel-efficient car by size
* Most fuel-efficient car by budget
* Most fuel-efficient used car
