ROAD 2019
A training centre at the Automotive Campus in Brainport Eindhoven

To spark economic growth, innovation is key. That’s the strategy that Brainport Eindhoven in the Netherlands breaths and proves. With favourable tax rates, a government that understands the value of R&D and a focus on international trade and invest, the region is the economic engine of the country. Forget about Palo Alto, Munich or Tokyo. If you want to know what’s happening on innovation in the automotive space, look at Brainport Eindhoven.

And this summer, it is bringing home the future of mobility at an event, tagged ROAD 2019. The Roundtable on the Purpose of Autonomous Driving (ROAD) is an international conference discussing issues related to autonomous driving and advanced driving-assist technologies.

The Brainport region is located in the south of the Netherlands, about 120km southeast from Amsterdam, and is the Dutch centre of gravity of the automotive industry. Brainport is known for its close cooperation, open supply chain networks, easy accessible research platforms and joint innovation. A wide variety of companies are clustered on different campuses, creating a hotspot of research and development. One of these campuses is focused on smart and green mobility: the Automotive Campus in Helmond.

The former Volvo Nedcar development centre has transformed into an international automotive and mobility hotspot where industry, start-ups, education, knowledge institutes and government come together. In an open innovation, OEM-independent and neutral setting all kinds of systems can be tested. The campus offers an attractive learning and working environment, state-of-the-art technological (test) facilities and flexible accommodation concepts. It is where automotive technology is turned into business and where solutions offering answers to future mobility challenges are developed.

R&D and introduction of future technologies in the fields of smart and green mobility requires cross-sectoral collaboration between companies, educational and knowledge institutes and government in the fields of energy, ICT, infrastructure and traffic management. The importance and value of this collaboration is now seen by many international organisations, which results in three important worldwide mobility events happing this summer in the Brainport region.
