Spanish digital signature firm, Lleida.net, gets first Nigerian patent on electronic notification, certification

Spanish Digital Signature company, Lleida.net, appears set to expand its Africa operations into Nigeria following the approval granted the company for its first patent on electronic notification and certification by the Nigerian Intellectual Property Office (NIPO).

The approval, according to an official statement, corresponds to the company’s method for the certification of emails
containing a recognized electronic signature by a telecommunication
operator and is valid for 20 years.

The Lleida.net method allows sending a digitally signed certified email with a recognized signature without breaking the signature at the time of certification.

The technology generates a legally valid certificate that can be
presented as evidence in court to prove the sending, content, delivery
and non-manipulation of the information.

The Spanish company, which is listed on the Spanish Alternative Stock Market (MAB) in Madrid and on Euronext Growth in Paris, has been operating in Africa since 2014 when it began operations in South Africa by opening offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Commenting on the Nigerian patent approval, Lleida.net CEO and founder, Sisco Sapena, said: “Receiving a patent in a regional market as important as Nigeria is going to be key for the development of the company in a continent where we have presence since 2014, and where we already operate in several relevant markets.”

In the continent, Lleida.net is a certified SMS and email provider for the South African, Zambian and Botswana postal services.

In terms of intellectual property, the company has more than 150
electronic certification patents in different regions of the world,
including South Africa. In the African region, it works in other countries of the continent, such as
Botswana, Kenya or Ghana.

Lleida.net’s methods are recognized as valid to certify legal notices in
hiring processes by the authorities of over 70 countries.

The company, founded 25 years ago, has reinforced during the last two
months, its Research and Development work to create new products that will strengthen the validity of certified corporate communications issued remotely.

Lleida.net is currently the company whose value has grown the most in
the MAB in 2020, with a 214 per cent growth .

The stock market capitalization of the company is currently put at 50 million euros.
