Big wave surfer, Sebastian Steudtner, has been named the Brand Ambassador for the X-Class, the new pickup bearing the Mercedes star. The appointment of the two-time winner of the “XXL biggest wave award” came as Mercedes-Benz Vans continues expanding its commitment to the world of surfing.
Steudtner is billed to make his first appearance in his new role this Saturday, September 16, at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt.
Head of Marketing Communications and Operations Mercedes-Benz Vans, Sonja Schneemann, said: “By appointing Sebastian Steudtner, one of the world’s best big wave surfers, we are strengthening our ties with the world of surfing. As two-time winner of the ‘XXL biggest wave award’, Sebastian Steudtner enjoys an international profile. This makes him the perfect ambassador for our new X-Class, whose core markets not only include Europe and Latin America, but also keen surfing countries such as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. ”
On his part, Sebastian Steudtner, said: ”I am delighted about the partnership with Mercedes-Benz Vans, and I am already looking forward to my first appearance with the new X-Class at the IAA. The X-Class is the ideal vehicle for surfers. It’s perfect for transporting bulky sports equipment to remote locations. And then there’s the cool design and the comfort too. This is a vehicle that’s definitely going to turn heads at the beach.”
Visitors will be able to meet the big wave surf star and the new X-Class in front of the Mercedes hall this Saturday at 10:30 am, 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm. The 32-year-old will be sharing his experiences, passing on some surfing tips and tricks and signing autographs. The highlight will be a virtual reality experience, as visitors don VR headsets and enjoy some spectacular surfing with Steudtner.
The new Mercedes-Benz X-Class
The new X-Class unites the typical characteristics of a pickup with the classical strengths of a Mercedes: convincing robustness with modern design, impressive off-road capabilities with high driving dynamics and safety, sophisticated functionality and stylish comfort. The new X-Class has a comfort suspension with a ladder-type frame, rear multi-link solid axle, front independent wheel suspension and coil springs at both axles. On this platform it enters the market with different design and equipment lines, various drive variants, the largest choice of materials and colours in the segment and an extensive range of accessories developed by Mercedes-Benz which allow for further individualisation.
The European market launch is scheduled for November 2017 with South Africa, Australia and New Zealand following early next year, while in early 2019, Argentina and Brazil will follow. Orders for the new X-Class started on September 12 and is already available in Germany.
