Goodyear South Africa is really impacting the lives of children in its area of operations in a positive way by laying a good foundation for them in life. At its annual Group Conference which held Wednesday, February 8, at the Boardwalk Hotel in Port Elizabeth, Goodyear lived up to the billings of the conference theme, ‘Building Together’, as the employees which had earlier grouped themselves into teams to plan, design and paint building blocks for children in the Nelson Mandela Bay community, delivered the gifts.

The building blocks were packed in boxes which were also decorated and signed by the teams with inspirational messages for the children who will receive them. The boxes were handed over to Port Elizabeth Rotary Club president, Denise Pudney, by Goodyear Managing Director, Jean-Jacques Wiroth.

“This is huge for the Port Elizabeth Rotary Club and we are very grateful to have been chosen as the vehicle to distribute these boxes to various schools in the area. Building blocks are such a significant tool to building a good foundation for children’s education, as they mentally stimulate, improve motor skills and encourage creativity. We would also like to thank each employee who was involved and we will make sure that the boxes go to the right educational facilities for young children,” Pudney said showing feelings of excitement.

On the motivation for the gesture, Goodyear Managing Director, Wiroth, said: ”Goodyear is committed to growing in South Africa and therefore believes in contributing meaningfully towards the social development of communities close to our operations. Team work is one of the key values that drive Goodyear South Africa operations and it was in this spirit that the employees put their creative talent together to come up with these building blocks. We believe these building blocks will contribute towards the children’s early childhood development, which is recognised as one of the most powerful tools for breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty in South Africa.”

With the latest donations, Goodyear South Africa, which is listed as one of the Top 50 companies in Nelson Mandela Bay as recognised by the municipality for Top Employer and Long Standing Investor in the region, has again demonstrated its willingness to continue to strive to make a difference in communities close to its operations.Really, this is another good Corporate Social Responsibility by Goodyear.
