It’s celebration time for Mercedes-Benz in Ireland as the first commercial vehicle sporting the three-pointed star was introduced to the country 50 years ago. Fergus Conheady, Commercial Vehicle Sales Manager (left) and Stephen Byrne, Chief Executive of Mercedes-Benz Ireland, said it was an occasion that held particular significance for the Emerald Isle, back in 1967.
The heavy-duty short-nosed Mercedes-Benz 1418 model, for example, was to become an important factor in the expansion of the Irish economy; and it remains popular with collectors and truck enthusiasts to this day. Nowadays, it is no longer 1418, with its “bull nose” design, that is such a typical sight in this right-hand-drive market, but rather the current range of Euro VI trucks from Mercedes-Benz. The most popular trucks among Irish customers are the Actros, Atego and Econic.
