Okada/Tricycle ban: Lagos moves to deploy over 500 new buses on affected routes

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has restated his administration’s resolve not to back down on the recent ban of commercial motorcycles operators popularly called okada as well as tricycles from major highways and some routes in the state

He however pronised that over 500 buses would soon be deployed on the routes affected by the ban and restrictions in order to ameliorate the sufferings of commuters along the affected routes.

The  governor made the promise last week at the launch of new locally-built ferries to boost water transportation in the state.

The governor said,  “Let me tell you about the ban which we just enforced. We will sustain the ban on Okada and tricycles, mainly because of security and safety reasons. The security and safety of citizens are paramount to any government. As a responsible government, we will not fold our arms and allow any security breach in the state.”

He also restated the connitment of his administration  to protect the lives and property of the residents.

“We will continue to ensure the safety of our people on all fronts. There have been reports of serious security breaches and safety concerns in areas where these operators ply. We had to respond to these concerns because of life and safety matters to this government,” Sanwo-Olu affirmed.
