Norsk Hydro Partners Mercedes-Benz in Low-carbon Aluminium Deal

Norsk Hydro said on Thursday it had formed a partnership with Mercedes-Benz to deliver low-carbon aluminium for a range of models, as the German luxury carmaker works to cut is carbon footprint.

“This is an important signal to accelerate change in the aluminium industry and increase the availability of low carbon aluminium,” Mercedes-Benz’s chief technology officer Markus Schaefer said in a statement.

The financial terms of the deal between the German firm and the Norwegian aluminium and renewable energy company were not known.

Norsk Hydro said it expects 20 per cent annual demand growth for low-carbon aluminium in coming years.

Mercedes-Benz is pursuing a target of CO2-neutrality throughout the entire supply chain in its new passenger car fleet by 2039.
