The Director, Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Engineer AbdulAfis Gbolahan Toriola, Tuesday, said the State Government had not banned the operations of Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) from Lagos roads. The news of the alleged ban made the headlines on Tuesday with many attributing the action of the government to perceived excesses of the VIOs in Lagos.
However, in a reaction to inquiries sent to him by Auto Report Africa on Tuesday, Toriola said: “The story is not true, ” though he refused to offer further explanation.
His clarification came as the State Commissioner for Transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi, and his Information counterpart, Steve Ayorinde, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the operations the VIOs on Lagos roads have not been completely banned, saying the VIOs were only sent for training on how to improve themselves in line with best global practices.
