Nissan Pledges Support to Hurricane Harvey Relief, Recovery Efforts

Nissan has joined in mobilising support for people affected by the devastating Hurricane Harvey in the United States. A day after Toyota announced a combined $3million boost to the relief and recovery efforts in Houston, Texas, Nissan Group of North America Thursday announced an immediate $150,000 cash donation to the American Red Cross in support of relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The company also promised to match employee donations to American Red Cross dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 with an additional 20 Nissan TITAN trucks to be provided to support humanitarian relief organisations across the Gulf Coast region.

The funds, according to a statement issued in Nashville, Tennessee will be used to assist the American Red Cross in providing food, shelter, relief supplies, emotional support, recovery planning and other assistance as well as supporting the vehicles, warehouses and people that make all this critical help possible.

“Our thoughts are with those whose lives have been forever changed by the devastating hurricane that has hit this region,” said José Muñoz, Chief Performance Officer, Nissan Motor Company, Ltd., and Chairman, Nissan North America, Inc. “The Red Cross will aid thousands of people in the coming weeks, including our customers, dealers and employees who are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, and we want the people of the region to know we are committed to helping them receive the assistance they need.”

The statement further disclosed that in addition to the donation, Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation (NMAC) and INFINITI Financial Services will also take steps to help customers impacted by the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey. Nissan said NMAC and INFINITI Financial Services will proactively attempt to reach consumers living in the FEMA-designated disaster areas to offer assistance through payment deferrals or customers can request payment extensions by contacting the company directly.

The current initiative is another evidence of Nissan Group’s long history of responding to humanitarian needs and providing disaster relief through organisations that include the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, and food banks in communities where the company has an operational presence.
