Nigeria moves to reposition auto sector, holds stakeholders forum Monday

In a bid to reposition the country’s automotive sector, the Nigerian Federal Government has expressed its determination to remove all impediments limiting the full implementation of the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP).

To achieve this, and as part of the on-going review of the plan, the Federal Government will host a Stakeholders Forum in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, on Monday, according to a statement signed by Mr. ‘Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the Vice President.

The statement said the Forum will, among other objectives, review the strategic direction options available for the repositioning of the country’s automotive industry as a more competitive sector that will deliver the much-needed jobs for Nigerians.

The high-level stakeholders forum is intended to also engage with representatives from the industry to deliberate on how to diversify the economy, increase exports and foreign exchange earnings and create sustainable economic development.

Discussions at the meeting will also focus on specific actions and steps required by Government towards achieving the strategic objectives of the Development Plan.

The Presidency and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment will host the industry forum in conjunction with the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).

Members of the National Assembly, industry chieftains, bureaucrats, local and international experts as well as investors are also expected to attend the forum.
