Multimodal transportation system, key to Nigeria’s devt – Chidoka

Former Minister for Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, who is also the immediate past Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Tuesday in Abuja, said effective multimodal transportation system is key to Nigeria’s economic development.

Chidoka, who also stressed the need for a well-developed intra-city transportation system,  spoke as a guest on the Network News of Radio Nigeria monitored in Lagos.

Chidoka, who is the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Transportation Growth Initiative (TGI), organisers of the two-day international transportation conference, which kicked off in Abuja on Monday, however disclosed that he was using the opportunity of the conference sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to step down as chairman of the BoT of TGI in order to prevent a clash between his ‘’partisan interests’’ and the cardinal objectives of the organisation.

Chidoka disclosed that the conference, which was organised to proffer solutions to the transportation challenges facing the continent without damaging the environment, would also address issues such as inadequate transportation infrastructure for safe and efficient movement of persons and goods around and across the continent as well as x-ray the issues in order to provide blue print to support government’s efforts.
