Indications emerged Friday that Japanese automakers, Mitsubishi Motors Corp,will soon open a vehicle assembly plant in Nigeria.
This came a day after French auto giant, Peugeot, told President Muhammadu Buhari that it will soon return to the country following the collapse of the privatisation of Peugeot Automobile of Nigeria (PAN). Peugeot said it was set to assemble 4,000 cars in Nigeria by 2016.
Disclosing Mitsubishi’s plan in an interview with Reuters, the regional head in West Africa for the company, Anand Singh, said “It’s still in negotiation – you can say in the third round out of 10. We have identified the land. Now we are waiting for some clearances from customs, finance ministry … so that’s the status.”
