Mattias Ekström Defeats Mick Schumacher in Race of Champions Final

German Mick Schumacher was defeated by Sweden’s Mattias Ekström in the Race of Champions individual final on Sunday.

Schumacher, who lost his Formula One seat with Haas and will be the Mercedes reserve driver this season, lost out to the 44-year-old touring car and rallycross driver. Ekström won despite a fire in his car on home snow and ice in Pite Havsbad. 

Schumacher who went out in the semi-final of the Nations Cup alongside fellow German Sebastian Vettel on Saturday, beat his now retired compatriot in the individual competition on Sunday.

The annual Race of Champions pits top international drivers from various racing series against each other in different cars.
