MAIDEN EDITION OF ANNUAL LOGISTICS, TRANSPORT AND PORT MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE HOLDS IN LAGOS FEBRUARY 25-26

Major industry stakeholders and officials of relevant government agencies in the transport sector in Nigeria and the West African sub-region would converge on Lagos, February 25-26 , for the maiden edition of the annual logistics, transport and port management conference being organised by DU& T Consulting, a Lagos-based consulting firm.

The two-day conference which is scheduled to hold at the Conference Hall of the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos will have as its theme, Improving Transportation, Logistics and Port Service Delivery and Effectiveness in West Africa.

Managing Consultant, DU& T Consulting, John Aderibigbe, who disclosed this at a media briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, said the decision to organise the conference was informed by the need to address the peculiar challenges facing stakeholders in the logistics, transport and shipping business not only in Nigeria but the entire West African sub-region .

He listed the challenges to include those relating to government regulations, activities of regulatory agencies and poor utility maintenance at the ports.

Aderibigbe said:  “Cargo movement from the ports of entry to the point of destination also face the trio challenges of regulations, regulators and poor maintenance of utilities. These three challenges have limited the abilities of the stakeholders in achieving the potentials of their processes, systems and profitability by falling victims of the four forms of waste- delay (waiting time), transportation (traffic and bad roads), inventory (delay in movement of good out of the port) and defects (regular spending on continuous repairs of vehicle).”

He disclosed that that the conference is being hosted by the various association in logistics and transport industry in the country and organised by DU&T Consulting. According to him, there would also be an exhibition of products and services by different service providers and manufacturers on the sidelines of the conference.

He added that the organisers have been able to gather a broad range of manufacturing, logistics, port operators, haulage, shipping security operatives, airlines, shippers, Freight Forwarders, regulatory agencies- Nigeria Customs, Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Ministry of Aviation, Ministry of Work, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Water Resources, Insurance Agencies, Security Operatives and members of Association of Port Operators, Insurance Brokers etc to attend the two-day event.
