Mahindra Launches New-look Pik Up Single Cab S6

Mahindra South Africa has celebrated the reopening of its dealer network with the launch of a refreshed Pik Up S6 Single Cab.

The S6 is Mahindra’s flagship single cab model and is offered with the choice of 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain. It slots in above the workhorse S4, which is also available with both drivetrain options and with the option of a heavy-duty dropside load bay.

“The upgraded S6 single cab is one of the first models to benefit from our internal working group. In this group, we are looking at ways to further improve our reputation for producing the Reliable and Capable yet Affordable vehicles that Mahindra has become known for,” says Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa.

Updated brightwork and functional improvements

Viewed from outside, the S6 Single Cab benefits from the design changes first seen on the S11 Automatic Double Cab and which have now trickled down to the S10 Double Cab and S6 Single Cab models.

The new corporate grille is the centrepiece of this design change. With its large, seven-slot chromed grille and large Mahindra badge, it resembles the new look on the double cab and Scorpio models.

Flanking the grille are new headlamps that are fitted with clear indicator lenses and embedded orange indicator bulbs. This same motif is repeated in the side indicators, which are fitted on the signature Mahindra slots on the front fenders.

The S6 now also features a reworked front bumper, with integrated fog lamps and chrome detailing.

On a functional level, Mahindra has redesigned the styling bar for added rigidity and improved tie-down capabilities. This styling bar is bolted onto the rear load bay and is standard on both the 4×2 and 4×4 models.

Lastly, Mahindra has added an electric locking mechanism to the fuel lid, which now allows the fuel door to be opened remotely.

Added value inside

The real added value, which Mahindra is known for, can be found inside the cabin.

The driver now has the benefit of electric rear view mirror adjustment, one-touch lane change indicators and cruise control. These features are often a cost option on pick up models but are included in the S6 at the same retail price.

The S6 single cab range has also been fitted with the range’s upgraded seat design, which offers arm rests for both occupants and height adjustment for the driver.

Lastly, the key fob has been replaced with the upmarket flip key with integrated remote found on the lifestyle double cab models.

One should keep in mind that these additional upgrades are simply added to the already long list of luxury features found in the S6 single cab. All models in the S6 range, for instance, offer rain-sensitive wipers, automatic self-levelling headlamps and a fuel-saving start-stop system.

All S6 models also include Mahindra’s integrated audio system with auxiliary port, USB and Bluetooth connectivity. This model further has dual front airbags, central locking, a 12V charging port, ABS brakes with emergency brake force distribution and air conditioning as standard.

mHawk on duty

As before, the S6 range is equipped with Mahindra’s proven and durable 2.2 litre mHawk turbodiesel engine.

The mHawk engine has common rail direct injection and variable turbocharging to deliver 103 kW at 3 750 rpm and a healthy 320 Nm in a wide band between 1 500 rpm and 2 800 rpm.

This configuration of the mHawk engine has also proven itself in last year’s WesBank Fuel Economy Tour and it is rated for a real-world consumption of 7.7 litres / 100 km for the 4×2 model and 7.9 litres / 100 km in the 4×4 configuration.

Equipped with this engine, the S6 single cab can tow a braked trailer weighing up to 2 500 kilogrammes, while also being able to take a payload of up to 1 195 kg on the 4×2 model (1 095 kg on the 4×4).

Comprehensive warranty and service plan

All Mahindra Pik Up S6 models are sold with a comprehensive 4-year / 120 000 km mechanical warranty and roadside assistance plan and 5-year / 90 000 km service plan. Service intervals, barring the initial 10 000 km lubrication service, are set at 20 000 km.
