The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) said it would soon embark on advocacy campaign to enlighten Lagosians on the State Blue Rail Line System ahead of the commencement of the system .
The Managing Director, LAMATA, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, disclosed this last week when she met with officials of Ministries of Transportation and Local Government and Community Affairs, Local Government Areas, Local Council Development Areas and enforcement agencies in the state .
The meeting was to seek solutions to the constant damage to infrastructure and fixtures for the Blue Line rail project, the use of rail tracks as market stalls and open defecation on the tracks among other infractions on the rail corridor.
The LAMATA boss explained the dangers ahead for disobedience to guidelines on the rail line as she told the officials that the trains to be deployed for the Blue line would run every three minutes and would be powered by electricity. She therefore stressed the need for the local government officials to educate their constituents on the danger of using the rail tracks when they become electrified.
Akinajo said LAMATA’s advocacy programmes would aim at sensitising the people ahead of the planned commencement of testing and commissioning and passenger operations of the Blue Line rail project.
