Lagos restricts LAGBUS buses from Ikorodu Road BRT corridor

Lagos State Government will from this Monday restrict all LAGBUS buses from using the Ikorodu Road BRT corridor.

While LAGBUS buses will now be using the Expressway and service lanes along the Ikorodu Road stretch for their services, the operations of LAGBUS buses are to be moved to other 14 routes already identified under the Lagos State Metropolitan Transport Master plan. Another route is expected to take off before the end of the year.

The move is coming ahead of the State Government’s plans to introduce Intelligent Traffic System along the BRT corridor.

However, the restriction will not affect charter staff buses run by LAGBUS and does not preclude access to depot along Ikorodu road just as express services will be allowed with only few designated stops.

Lagos State acting Commissioner for Transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi, made the disclosure weekend in a statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs in the Ministry, Bola Fagunwa.

He said the State Government was determined to enhance and boost commuters’ experience along the corridor as he noted that the present arrangement has constrained the capacity of the BRT bus services to cater for the people.

He revealed that under the new arrangement, all routes from Ikorodu hinterland will now terminate at Benson bus stop after which there will be no loading of passengers. He also announced the ban on on-board ticket sales, saying they were not in consonance with structured service.
