Kidzcan Moves Forward With Land Rover

Kidzcan , a Zimbabwean Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO) and non-profit entity, which provides cancer relief to children, continues to receive big boost from Jaguar Land Rover sub-Sahara Africa, in association with its official importer and distributor in Zimbabwe – Premier Auto .

According to a statement obtained by AUTO REPORT AFRICA, JLR SSA and Premier Auto will fund the use of a Land Rover Defender by Kidzcan – a vehicle which in the course of 2013 already proved invaluable in reaching remote areas of the country.

The statement said the announcement was made at an event on March 20 at Harare’s Parirenyantwa Hospital , also attended by Moses Chingwena, Chairman of the Croco Motor Group of which Premier Auto is a part.

The news, along with the distribution of colourful t-shirts, was cause for celebration, but it was “Kiddles the Teddy Bear” that drew the biggest smiles from the kids. The Kiddles project, a name derived from combining cuddles and kids, was initiated by Land Rover’s sub-Sahara Marketing and PR Manager Willem Schoeman, and involves the sale of teddy bears to corporates and to individuals with each sale resulting in a donation to Kidzcan.

In this way, $5 000 has been raised.

“Jaguar Land Rover sub-Sahara Africa places great significance on supporting the communities in which it is represented and the company has identified Kidzcan as an organisation which makes a positive contribution to improving people’s lives,” Nigel Clarke, JLR SSA’s Operations Director, was quoted as saying.

Founded five years ago, Kidzcan initially provided simple spiritual and emotional support to children suffering with cancer. But in recent years, Kidzcan has grown to provide financial support to ensure children with cancer could enjoy access to a broad range of tests, treatments and other services.

Today, Kidzcan works predominantly in collaboration with the paediatric oncology ward of Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. The organization also provides funding of diagnostic testing, including MRIs, X-rays, CT scans necessary to make accurate and timely diagnoses and follow up assessments, funding of laboratory tests, the sourcing and paying for chemotherapy drugs and associated medications and providing blood and blood products. It also supplies nutritional supplementation for children in particular need and runs a nationwide education and outreach programme aimed at increasing the awareness of the early warning signs and symptoms of childhood cancer.

“Children can, and do, survive cancer, but early identification of the illness and treatment thereof is critical. Kidzcan does great work across Zimbabwe, and we’re privileged to be able to assist them in this regard,” Clarke stressed.
