Exactly a week ago, last Sunday, 7 June 2020, a group of KIA Cerato Koup enthusiasts got together with one goal in mind: to hand out food parcels to those in need and do their part to help some of the many South Africans currently struggling to put food on the table.
Known as the KIA Koup Lifestyle group, this extraordinary collection of people not only share a taste in cars, but also their passion for helping people and communities whenever possible.
According to Rodney Tebogo Marx, the founder of KIA Koup Lifestyle, “We started purely as a fan club and social group in 2018, but we we quickly realised that all our members saw this as an opportunity to share some hope and joy as well.”
This amazing owners group has since gone on to regularly organise community upliftment events and to join in where help is needed. Some of their previous activities include cleaning up litter around Gauteng roads as well as jumping in with painting projects at schools and creches in desperate need.
“We know we are fortunate, and we want to help wherever possible. It’s so fantastic to see a car club come together and start doing community work. We are like-minded people from all across Gauteng, and we are thankful to be able to help those less fortunate”, says Marx.
For the group’s latest endeavour, 22 KIA Cerato Koup owners partnered with the SAPS in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, to hand out food parcels to families in need. Each Koup owner put together one food parcel, and these were given to families currently struggling to afford food.
“I suppose you can say that our motto is that every bit counts”, says Marx, “we use our own personal funds to put together these food parcels, and we contribute as much as we can afford. Even if it’s just a handful of parcels at a time, I would encourage all other owner groups to do something similar, as every single food parcel helps at least one family. To that one family, it makes a huge difference.”
During the month of April, KIA donated five vehicles to three different charities to aid their the reliable delivery of food to vulnerable communities in Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape. As such, the company fully supports the initiative taken by the KIA Koup Lifestyle group.
“While the group organised this food drive independently, we are delighted to see our passionate owners heeding the call to support vulnerable communities in need,” says Gary Scott, CEO, KIA Motors South Africa.
