A few days after sealing a deal with the Defence Industries Company of Nigeria (DICON) on the manufacture and supply of defence equipment, indications emerged on Tuesday that Nigeria’s leading indigenous automobile manufacturers, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd, will benefit immensely from the Executive Order recently signed by the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on preference for local products in the area of public procurement by all Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the country.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, gave the indications during his visit to Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd in Nnewi, Anambra State, during which he was taken through the various stages of production processes. He said Innoson will be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, beneficiaries of the recently National Media Launch of the Made-in-Nigerian Campaign, urging the Anambra State Government and its Local Governments to domesticate the campaign. The campaign is being championed by the Ministry of Information and Culture, with the active collaboration of Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

The Minister also praised the entrepreneurial spirit of the Chairman of Innoson, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, promising him that he will be the biggest beneficiary of the Federal Government’s desire to patronise Made-in-Nigeria products.

While welcoming the Minister, Chukwuma expressed gratitude for the visit and urged him to use his offices to inform the Government that Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing is not a private project but a National project which, if given maximum support, will bring major foreign exchange to the country and create thousands of employment.
