Have Your Brakes Checked for Free!!!!

October is Transport Month. The Vehicle Testing Association, a proud association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation, will be launching a free brake test campaign in support of all efforts to  further advance road safety in our  country.

Participating VTA/RMI vehicle testing stations around the country will be offering motorists FREE BRAKE TESTS on their vehicles between 23 October   to 27 October 2023. The campaign aims to help motorists make safety their first priority always.

“Our roads are becoming more and more dangerous daily and extra precautions need to be taken. Proper working brakes are crucial in decreasing the number of fatalities when driving. Vehicles typically work more efficiently with well-functioning brakes and provide an optimum driving performance. Furthermore, many vehicle owners find they can save substantial amounts of money just by keeping their brakes in good working order,” says Julian Pillay, national director of VTA.

The RMI/VTA continue to give their full commitment to Road Safety in South Africa. To locate your nearest participating Testing Station, call or email Thuli Biyase on 031 266 7031 or Thuli.Biyase@rmi.org.za

Please note that this check is not a roadworthiness test, but rather a Safety Critical Brake Test to measure brake efficiency, with the aim being to increase road safety in the country.

Benefits of a break test at a VTA facility:

  • calibrated mechanical braking equipment for correct/accurate assessments
  • identify individual wheel braking performance
  • identify park/hand brake efficiency
  • check pedal pulsation or uneven discs
  • check pedal fading or loss of pressure
  • identify any brake fluid leaks

Unfortunately, there are currently no participant test stations in areas of Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Free State and Eastern Cape
