GOODYEAR SIGNS FIA TRUCK RACING TYRE CONTRACT

Goodyear has signed a contract with the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) to become the exclusive tyre supply partner for the FIA European Truck Racing Championship.

The contract was signed last week in Paris by Jean Todt, President of the FIA, and Davide Califano, Director Marketing Activation Commercial Tyres at Goodyear Europe, Middle East and Africa, at the official launch ceremony of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship.

The contract , according to a statement obtained by AUTO REPORT AFRICA, sees Goodyear become a partner of the newly formed ETRA Promotion GmbH (ETRA) – the series’ new promotor.

It means that all trucks in the series will race on Goodyear Truck Racing tyres, which have been specially developed for the sport for the next three years. The supply and support for these tyres will be provided by the Truck Race Organisation (TRO), for the FIA European Truck Racing Championship at every race.

“We are very pleased to have been selected by the FIA to produce, supply and support the tyres for the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. We started supplying truck race tyres in 2004 and over the years have continued to develop tyres that are optimized to withstand the extreme conditions found on the race track,” said Davide Califano. “A further benefit is that racing allows us to test new technologies that will ultimately benefit our standard truck tyres and consequently our customers.”

For the 2016 season, Goodyear will supply the specially developed Goodyear Truck Racing tyres in size 315/70R22.5.

The provisional 2016 FIA European Truck Racing Championship programme is as follows:

  • May 22 – Red Bull Ring/Spielberg – Austria
  • May 29 – Misano – Italy
  • June 12 – Nogaro – France
  • July 3 – Nürburgring – Germany
  • August 28 – Hungaroring – Hungary
  • September 4 – Most – Czech Republic
  • September 18 – Zolder – Belgium
  • October 2 – Jarama – Spain
  • October 10 – Le Mans – France
