A Lutheran pastor in northern Germany has continued his pandemic-era pratice of holding his Christmas service from the trailer of a tractor.
For the third time, the tractor-trailer, decorated for Christmas, drove to four stations in the town of Stuhr near Bremen for a mass lasting about 20 minutes each on Saturday, Christmas Eve.
Pastor Robert Vetter read the biblical Christmas story and preached briefly. Carols and bell ringing came from a recorded track. The trailer, a former mobile forest hut, was decked out as a nativity scene.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the pastor came up with the idea of an outdoor service because of social-distancing regulations.
The worship on wheels already enjoyed great popularity in the two previous years. Despite rain and cool temperatures, many people combined a walk with the service on Saturday.
Children and confirmation candidates were among the visitors, with some bringing folding chairs.
