Geely Coolray, Suzuki S-Presso, GAC GS4 Emerge Finalists for Nigeria COTY 2022

Geeely CoolRay, Suzuki S-Presso and GAC GS4 have made it to the finals of the 2022 Car of the Year (COTY) competition being organised by the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) as they battle for the coveted COTY award at the 2022 NAJA Awards Night scheduled to hold on January 25, 2023 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The annual NAJA awards ceremony  celebrates leading and top performing auto brands in Nigeria.

Geeely CoolRay is distributed in the country by Mikano Motors as Suzuki S-Presso is on the stable of  CFAO Motors while CIG Motors is the official distributor of GAC GS4 in Nigeria.

Finalists in other categories of the 2022 awards  have also been announced by the Awards Committee.

In the Truck-of-the-Year category, Sino truck, Dangote Shacman – TSS and JAC from Lanre Shittu will slug it out.

Innoson, Mikano and GAC will also battle  for the Assembly Plant-of-the-Year category.

For the luxury car segment, Porsche, Mercedes – Benz and BMW models are in the lead.

Elizade Autoland (JAC), Stallion Hyundai and CFAO will do battle for the outstanding auto workshop award.

In the SUV category (compact), Kia Selto, Geely Coolray and GAC GS4 have been nominated.

For Large SUV, Toyota Land Cruiser will lock horns with GAC GS8, BMW X7 and Range Rover (Autobiography).

Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi L200 and Ford Ranger will battle for the Pickup-Truck-of–the-Year award.

Lanre Shittu (JAC truck), TSS (Shacman) and Dangote Sinotruck will also battle again for the truck plant of the year award.

Chairman of the 2022 Award Committee, Rasheed Bisiriyu, said all vehicles nominated in the various categories represent exceptional value and designs.

“We are using our respected, trusted platform to recognise and acknowledge best-performing brands in different segments and categories across the entire auto value chain,” Bisiriyu said, as he disclosed that  the annual event, which has now become a major industry show, celebrates and rewards automotive excellence.

According to him, the Founder/CEO of ABC Transport, Frank Nneji, and Deputy Managing Director of CFAO Motors, Mr. Kunle Jaiyesimi,  would be honoured with the Auto Personality of the year in recognition of their immense contributions to the development of Nigeria’s auto industry just as the Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr. Aliyu Jelani, will also be honoured as Promoter of Local Content in auto assembling in Nigeria.

Posthumous awards will also be given to the late Chairman of Globe Motors, William Anumudu and Mrs. Charity Maduka, the late wife of the President/CEO, Coscharis Group, Dr.  Cosmas Maduka.

Meanwhile, Chairman of NAJA, Mike Ochonma, has congratulated all the nominees for the 2022 awards, saying NAJA has always believed in bringing together all the stakeholders in the automotive sector to build a stronger community and strengthen consumers’ confidence and trust in the industry and their brands.
