(Raymond Ozoji , Awka) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has sent a strong warning to corrupt elements within the Corps, saying it would not hesitate  to dismiss any official involved in corrupt practices such as license racketeering and other illegal transactions with motorists while on duty .

The Sector Commander, Anambra Sector Command,  Mr. Sunday Michael Ajayi, who issued the warning  in an exclusive interview at the Command headquarters in Awka, the Anambra State capital, said any staff of the Corps caught in such act will lose his or her job forthwith .

“If a staff gets involved in license racketeering , he is going to loose his job  if caught . If a staff collects bribe and he’s caught , he is going to lose his job . The management of the Corps has zero tolerance to corruption and punishment has been well spelt out,” Ajayi stated, adding that such unwholesome practices would not be condoned by the Corps .

The Sector Commander explained that offering bribe to road safety officials on the highway was not the solution even as he stressed that knowing the law and showing compliance and adherence to the law was far better . He said those who fall victim of license racketeering and paper forgery were those who do not follow due process in obtaining vehicle papers .

Ajayi also disclosed that any person caught with fake vehicle papers will pay a fine of N20,000 or go to jail while expired vehicle papers attract N10,000 fine or a jail term .

According to Ajayi, the 2017 strategic goals of the Corps as released by the national headquarters of the Corps include enhanced public education and enlightenment , advance road safety administration , strengthening professionalism and transparency as well as enforcement and post-crash care .

He disclosed that the Corps  would seek closer working relationship with the motoring public this year to create an environment where people will have confidence in the service they render as well as join hands with the Corps to achieve the strategic goals the Corps has set.  He noted  that road safety business is a collective responsibility even as he also revealed that the Corps was looking  forward to achieving 15 percent reduction in road traffic crashes as well as 25 percent reduction in fatality this year.
