FRSC Plans Massive Deployment of Personnel, Materials for Sallah Operations

As Muslims in Nigeria prepare to join their counterparts across the world to celebrate the Eid-el-fitri on July 5 and 6, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said on Friday that it has concluded arrangements for massive deployment of its men and other materials for a special Sallah patrol across the country to ensure safety during the Sallah holiday.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, disclosed this at a media briefing in Abuja on the preparations of the Corps for the Sallah festivities.

Reiterating the commitment of the Corps to ensuring effective management of traffic during the celebration, Oyeyemi said while the Corps’ personnel as well as special marshals have been mobilised for the special assignment, all its offices, roadside clinics and zebra points would remain open during the celebration to attend to distress calls and emergencies.

“Further to our sustained efforts towards ensuring sanity on the highways during this year’s Eid-el- Fitri celebrations, the Corps has concluded plans for massive deployment of its personnel comprising regular and special marshals, patrol vehicles, Ambulances, motor bikes and 10 tow trucks along designated routes and Eid praying grounds as part of measures to ensure free flow of traffic and sanity on the nation’s highways during the celebration,” he stated.

While enjoining motorists to ensure strict compliance with all traffic rules and regulations as well as observing proper maintenance of their vehicles, the Corps Marshal advised passengers to monitor their drivers to avoid reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, overloading and other road offences.

“As you travel during this Sallah celebration, remember that only the living celebrates. Remember that road traffic crashes don’t just happen; they are caused and can be prevented. Therefore guide against them and live to celebrate,” Oyeyemi admonished Nigerians.
