Fiat Tipo family wins Marcus 2017 awards ahead of re-introduction plan in Nigeria

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has received two important awards from the Austrian Automobile Club ÖAMTC (Österreichische Automobil-, Motorrad- und Touring Club) in a contest that rewards vehicles with the lowest running costs in the Compact and Station Wagon categories.

The awards came ahead of the plan by Weststar Associates, FCA sole dealership in Nigeria,  to re-introduce the Fiat brand of vehicles in the country in May as it is expected that the Fiat Tippo family would form part of the first set of consignment for the Nigerian market immediate after the launch.

ÖAMTC named the winners of the coveted Marcus awards for the fifth year running. The competition included 47 new vehicles that were launched in 2016 and was organised according to running cost and safety criteria in six categories, with Fiat winning two of them. The Fiat Tipo 4Door 1.3 MultiJet II 95 Easy beat seven competitors in the Compact segment, while the Fiat Tipo Station Wagon 1.3 MultiJet II 95 Pop ranked first as the most cost-effective new model in the Station Wagon segment, beating no fewer than nine competitors.

As in past years, cost-effectiveness was calculated by the ÖAMTC experts by taking the running costs of each single model into account, according to a practical and consolidated formula, to reward the new models with the lowest monthly running costs in each category.

Personality, style and functionality, combined with an unbeatable quality-to-price ratio: these are the key elements of the Fiat Tipo, summed up by the slogan “It doesn’t take much to get a lot”. With its well-defined model line-up, the Tipo is the ideal car for families, youngsters and companies. It perfectly embodies the Fiat brand values of functionality, simplicity and personality. Pricing, product features and content features highly in the decision process. From the early stages of development, special attention was given to total cost of ownership (TCO), a key consideration for both retail and business-to-business customers. The top-in-class TCO values are made possible by pairing low fuel consumption with low maintenance and running costs. Furthermore, the basic range and the comprehensive standard equipment keep the residual values high in the long term. .

The all-new Fiat Tipo Hatchback and Sedan will be launched in South Africa in May 2017.
