Excitement as Nissan Hits 150 million Vehicles Milestone

Nissan is really in a celebration mood. Reaching a milestone of the production of 150 million vehicles globally is no mean task for any automaker. Nissan has just achieved that feat and the excitement is still in the air. But the simple lesson from Nissan’s latest feat is that localisation of production really pays, especially with the support of local stakeholders globally.

While it took the Japanese auto giant to produce its first 100 million vehicles after the company was founded in 1933, it took only 11 years to produce the last 50 million.

When the carmaker reached the 100 million vehicle milestone in 2006, 76.5% of the total vehicles had been produced in Japan. However, localisation of production was accelerated in the past 11 years and  76.5% of the 50 million Nissan vehicles were made outside Japan – driven in particular by the U.S. and China – during the period.

Going forward, Nissan says it is not relenting on its oars even with this latest milestone as it has expressed its continued commitment to delivering cars that satisfy its customers worldwide.
