Elkem Silicones is set to storm the 14th China International Battery, Raw Material, Producing Equipment and Battery Parts Fair, tagged Battery China 2019  and the 4th China (Beijing) International EV Expo with a wide range of top-notch solutions for EV batteries. The event will be held at the China National Convention Centre (CNCC) from July 6 to 9, 2019.

Elkem Silicones, in a statement made available to AUTO REPORT AFRICA, said it would present a range of silicone solutions for NEV power batteries, including battery pack sealer and thermal conductive gap filler, as well as sealants for battery management systems. Other solutions to be showcased at  Battery China 2019 include:

Bluesil™ RT FOAM 3244 for EV battery pack sealing

The battery pack as a key component of EVs directly affects the safety of EVs, thus the seals of the battery pack must have excellent sealing properties. At this fair, Elkem Silicones will launch a new product named Bluesil™ RT FOAM 3244, for the application in sealing for battery pack. This product has effective waterproof, dustproof and anti-fouling for long-term protection of the battery. In addition, it has excellent compression set property. When the power battery fails, it is necessary to open the upper and lower covers of the battery pack for maintenance. Thanks to the excellent compression set, Bluesil™ RT FOAM 3244 can restore the original shape after repeated opening and closing cycles of the battery pack box.

Bluesil™ RT FOAM 3244 is a two-component RTV silicone foam that may create a solid foam after crosslinking and foaming reaction between component A and component B.  The user can coat it onto the cover of the battery pack box by using dynamic mixing equipment. This foam ensures excellent sealing of the battery pack box when the upper and lower covers are closed and bolted. The product can pass IP67/68 sealing standards.

Bluesil™ ESA6762 E5/ ESA6763 E5 thermal conductive gap fillers for power batteries

During energy storage and discharge, EV power batteries may release a large amount of heat due to chemical action such as electrolysis, which requires prompt heat dissipation. The heat dissipation system is usually a liquid cooling system consisting of aluminum tube and coolant. The entire battery pack is wrapped in an S-shaped circuit, complemented by a thermal conductive silicone pad between the battery packs for auxiliary heat transfer. However, this method is complicated in the production process. To simplify the production process, Elkem Silicones developed the new Bluesil™ ESA6762 E5 and ESA6763 E5.

These two thermal conductive adhesives can be directly coated on the liquid-cooled plate by automatic positioning dispensing. After vulcanization at room temperature, they have excellent dimensional tolerance and excellent heat dissipation. Coolant and liquid-cooled plate transfer heat energy through these thermal conductive adhesives to form a liquid-cooled heat dissipation system. This method of direct gluing on the liquid cooling plate optimizes the production process. In addition, Bluesil `ESA6762 E5 and ESA6763 E5 not only have excellent thermal conductivity, but also have excellent insulation and compression performance, which can play a very good role in protecting battery and liquid cooling plate.

CAF™ AXAD sealants for battery management system

At the fair, Elkem Silicones will also present CAF™ 33 AXAD and CAF™ 99 AXAD – condensation RTV silicone rubbers used for housing sealing of NEV and EV batteries. This product uses a static mixing technique in the process to achieve fast curing, strong adhesion to various substrates, and excellent compression set resistance and sealing.
