… Local Firm Partners China’s BYD on EV Assembly Plant

Nigeria appears ready to join the Electric Vehicle (EV) evolution spreading around the world by next year. A local firm, Nigus Enfinity, promised on Friday to  introduce Electric Vehicles (EVs) into the local automobile market from 2018, saying it also plans to establish the first assembly plant for EVs in the country by 2020, according to a report published by Daily Trust.

Daily Trust quoted the Chairman of the company, Prince Malik Ado-Ibrahim, as disclosing the plans during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Friday, stressing that his firm, which is currently building a 100 megawatts (mw) solar power plant in Katsina and another in Adamawa State, is partnering with Chinese auto giant, BYD (Build Your Dreams), to bring EVs massively into Nigeria at affordable costs from 2018.

“We are also working with BYD to get a local brand and start an electric vehicle assembly plant for Nigeria from 2020, “  Ado-Ibrahim, the first African to lead the Formula 1 Team global competition in 1999,  was also quoted as saying, adding “Gradually we will move to an EV with the African DNA starting in Nigeria.”
