Isuzu South Africa (SA) is again at the forefront of private sector support for government healthcare services in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa and has  ensured the refurbished site at the Provincial Hospital in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) is ready to service the local community as a vaccination centre.

Isuzu SA undertook and funded refurbishments of an old casualty ward of the hospital.

“Isuzu’s maintenance team, including contractors and sub-contractors, worked day and night to complete this project on time,” said Ms. Mandlakazi Sigcawu, Department Executive: Corporate and Public Affairs for Isuzu South Africa.

Vaccination shots were provided to members of the Gqeberha community today at the newly refurbished facility. The vaccination centre consists of consulting, administration and waiting rooms.

Ms. Sigcawu said it was important for Isuzu SA to ensure the site was ready in time for the second phase of government’s the vaccination role-out.

“This Isuzu SA initiative forms part of a larger Covid-19 response strategy that began last year. This included, but not limited to, vehicle support to various organisations at the frontline of fighting the Covid-19 epidemic, logistics and storage support, refurbishment projects, as well as community support in assisting with basic needs such as food and water,” she said.

Last year at the height of the pandemic, Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSAf) volunteered to undertake the task of renovating a transfer ward at the Provincial Hospital and three wards at Livingstone hospital, which were used to treat the influx of Covid-19 patients in Gqeberha.

“As a corporate citizen of Gqeberha, we remain committed to ensuring we work alongside our stakeholders for the long term sustainability of our communities.”
